Stuff about me personally, my computer history and other stuff. It can all be found below if you're interested.
Personal Stuff
Well, I'm a child of the 1970's who grew up in Wiltshire. I was born in Devizes (Home of The Famous Moonraker Story), I lived there up until my teenage years where I then moved to Swindon (Home of a few things, including The Famous Swindon Town Football Club).
Geeky Stuff
For as long as I can remember I've allways had an interest in technical things, I was one of those children who took thier toys apart just to see how they worked. Naturall progression bought me to personal computing and gaming.
Skills in Web Technologies
I have a knowledge and experience of wide range of web technologies some of which I've been using for over 10 years. These include but are not limited to the following; HTML, XHTML, CSS, Javascript, AJAX, Classic ASP, ASP.net, SQL, PHP. I am currently experimenting with HTML5 and CSS3.
Skills in Desktop Application Programming
I have developed a number of bespoke desktop applications covering a range of logistical tasks such as stock control, purchase and sales order management and warehouse control systems. Applications that fully integrate with third party software and data sources.
A Little About My Computer History
My first insight to real computers was in the early to mid 1980s when my parents bought me an Atari 800XL, games were loaded in by either putting a cassette in the tape deck and waiting for the screeching sounds to end or via the fast track method of using a cartridge (The same ones the Atari 2600 used).
It wasn't long before my interest extended beyond playing Pole Position and I started copying the lines of codes that could be found in the Atari magazines of the time, this moved on to my parents buying me Atari Basic programming books, being a nerdy 8 year old I found all of this quite fascinating. Don't get me wrong, I still did the things 'normal' 8 year olds did (Falling out of trees and tearing around the village on our BMX bikes etc).
Throughout the years my brother and I visited a large number of computer fairs and exhibitions to keep up to date with the ever evolving technologies. The Commodore Amiga 1200 was the last computer I owned before moving on to using personal computers that use a Microsoft operating system. My use of computers nowadays is not much more than as a tool to enable me to carry out my work.
Stuff that smells of Petrol
As child I used to follow F1 on the television (The good old days of F1 in the late 1970s and throughout the 1980s) but also used to follow Formula Ford 2000 and this took me to most of the race tracks across the country with Brands Hatch still a firm favourite of mine. I still have an interest in F1 but nowhere near as much as I did in The 'Good Ole Days'.
My interest in performance vehicles (Planes, Trains and Automobiles) is still strong and I've been fortunate enough to have worked in aviation and within the motor trade. I've not worked with trains yet but there's still time for that.
The saying that men don't grow up their toys just get bigger and more expensive I suppose could be true as far as I'm concerned, I do like my toys, a little.
